So I spent over an hour researching and typing what I hoped was an at least mildly interesting post about some of the questions I have had about travel and then finding (typically) disagreeing viewpoints to counteract all of my burgeoning hopes and dreams about our upcoming trip.  Then, as you might have guessed, some Cluj website and Safari went to fisticuffs and I ended up the only looser.  Lesson of the day: wordpress doesn’t autosave.

These are the highlights, extremely abbreviated:

-we are landing in Munich on our way (to smoke in what I hear is a stellar smoker’s lounge sponsored by none other than RJ Reynolds.

-we just might have to stay at this place named Retro Hostel at least one night.  It’s right by a medieval wall!

-trains are definitely not all of the same quality.

-places to drink can wax poetic or end in utter disappointment depending on how curious you are.

-hitchhiking is an adventure!

And there were more but you will just have to wait.  I have art to make!

It’s official.  We bought our tickets this week to go to Romania.  Of course there is a huge backlog of a story behind why…..

And this will be it, roughly.  Nikki and I and the family were hanging out at my studio during open studio night about this same time last year and a friend, Mark, came down and said, “I know some people you have got to meet!”  He went and found them and brought them down and introduced us to Chase and Sha.  The story was that they had been doing mission work in Romania for a good number of years and were back in the U.S. to visit and make some new contacts.

Needless to say we hit it off and the rest has been history.  They came back out later in the year before flying back to Cluj and spent the weekend with us.  We had some great heartfelt talks about art, theater, God and just about everything else and have been in contact ever since.  Most Saturday mornings we try to connect through Skype to touch base and expand our plans for while we visit.  All of that is still in the works for now.

But Nikki and I are so excited to see what direction this takes us in and all of the new friends, connections and experiences we will be making.

I hate introductions!

Yep, another blog by an artist.  But this one is different.  It’s about me.  I hope to use this as a place to keep my story up to date in a way facebook just can’t seem to pull off and I still have twitter avoidance issues so  sit back and enjoy  the show.
